Nvenc quicksync2/1/2024 ![]() The GTX 1660 Super is fantastic overkill for what I need. Just thought I'd update this in case anyone reads it in the future. Quick Sync will have the power advantage since it uses an on board chip. In the end which tech performs better? Quick Sync or NVENC? Does one look better than the other? NVENC seems marginally more difficult to setup and potentially more issues to run into but nothing deal breaking ASAIK. Looking around this subreddit, it seems many people favor nvidia GPU transcoding so I am wondering if the above statement is still accurate.Īnyway I got QuickSync setup on my system and it seems great except my 6700k doesn’t support HEVC. The decoding process will still use your CPU.” The post details some of the issues with NVENC transcoding most notably that, Which strongly encourages the use of Intel’s Quick Sync instead of Nvidia’s NVENC. Then I found this thread from a year ago: I didn’t really look into the patch but in theory this plan seemed fine. I only started looking into hw transcoding the other day and my initial plan was to install a GTX 1660S (actually I already ordered it), pass it through to my Plex container on unraid, and use the Nvidia patch to get around the limit. I’ve been software transcoding on my 6700k for a couple years-which hasn’t been a problem for me as I direct play most things, but severely limits transcoding capacity for clients who “require” transcoding. So I’m late to the hardware transcoding party.
